As we live in France, I am not surprised that they are the least likely to eat fast food. This is however purely down to two things. There are far fewer what we would call 'towns' in France like we have in the UK and the main reason why there are not so many takeaways and fast food restaurants. However when you do find them, they are well frequented!
the second reason is purely down to 'taste'. We have discovered this with all types of food. We run a chambres d'hote here and very often cook an evening meal. 90% of our guests are French and they are often terrified about what they are going to get to eat. They really believe that the English cannot cook and when we do produce what we think is purely 'continental type' cuisine, they think that we have cooked french food especially for them! When we look at what they sometimes eat, we cannot believe that they think it is good and also cannot believe that they cannot like some fo the foods that are seen as British. Anyway, we still surprise them all the time with our cooking and they do have to admit that we can cook.
Many of these people had bad experiences during the 1970's when they went to the UK on exchanges and were subjected to greasy fish and chips and also green Jelly! So many of our guests mention green Jelly. Anyway, in our experience of eating out in ordinary French restaurants and bistros is that the food is not all it is cracked up to be. The French seem to put up with it and accept tough meats etc. The meats in England are generally far superior. Don't know why but could be down partly to the butchery.
Conclusion is that it is just down to what you are used to eating and it is difficult to break a habit.
