Hi Folks,

My name is Ally and I live on The isle Of Bute (look it up :fish: )

After 20 years in the IT consultancy game, and countless breakfasts/lunches/dinners in cafes all over the country, my wife challenged my constant carping about what people were doing wrong in their cafes (I'm a serial criticiser). If you can do better, go and show us all. Silly woman  Last September, she went off for a weekend trip to Germany with my daughter, only to come back to find me saying "Remember you told me............well, while you were away, i bought a Cafe and we're opening in two weeks".

Anyways, opened late September and have learned a lot, taken my cooking in the house skills (??) to cooking in a cafe and am loving every minute of it.

The Mrs has become 'Mrs Front Of House' and has taken to it really well after having some reservations at the start.

Really pleased with the way we've survived the off season and most of the best restaurant owners on the Island come to me for their weekend brekky fry ups and we've had a couple of holiday makers send letters into the local paper offering their congratulations for what we've done with the place. We're almost through the winter season and looking forward to the real season starting at Easter.

Stumbled upon this place and am enjoying having a good read through.

Cheers,

Ally @ The Port Cafe

Welcome to the catering forum Ally and glad to see you are doing well. We like success stories on here.

Just looked up the Isle of Bute website and it looks a lovely place to live, with some very nice tradional buildings. Some very nice looking hotels as well.

I will lokk forward to reading more of your posts. Please post a picture or two in the catering gallery if you get the chance. It is in the gallery on the top of the page.

Hello Ally and nice to see a new member from so far away in the UK. I live in Southampton, so apart from Sarah on the IOW I'm probably the furthest from you.

It's great to see someone who had the guts to go for it and have a go at your dream. Having a love for cooking and getting on with them is the key to running a great business. Anything else you can learn by asking for help.

Hope you enjoy the forum and make some friends on here. :thuleft:
