I would like to know what repairs are possible on a gas equipment by a non gas safe/corgi engineer
ie 1. a gas combi oven requires a new door seal, no pannels are needed to remove to replace seal. does the engineer need to be gas safe/corgi to replace the door seal?
2. a gas combi oven is not working on steam can a non gas safe/corgi engineer start taking pannels off to test machine he finds an electric solinod valve faulty can he replace and leave machine working.
thanks

I would have to confirm this but my understanding is only a gas safe engineer can work on the gas systems on an appliance. An example was a gas combi oven that had an internal light fail and had this fixed by an electrical engineer. If the machine needed to be stripped and disconnected from the gas there would be a requirement for a gas safe engineer to reconnect it.
I could be wrong and I am sure Malcolm would know the answer to this one.

As part of the ACS gas training they undertake modules on fault finding (gas/ Electrical) so a Gas safe / Corgi trained fitter can work on the electrical systems for the areas of competance that they have Nat gas, Lpg etc. If the works are superficial and non invasive then you can do the work but if your works could interfere in any way with working of the machine and the solenoid you mention would then it should be repaired by a suitably qualified engineer with training from the manufacturer on that machine.

Sounds about right to me! The way i would look at it is, if you have to start taking panels off and poking around inside the equipment then it should be left to a Gas safe engineer!
